2018 Show Not A Guarantee Without More Donations
Shawano’s annual 3rd of July fireworks show is set to go in just under two weeks, but Dave Passehl of the fireworks committee says they are still in need of more funding.
We are looking for all the help that we can get. I think a misunderstanding is that the Shawano Fireworks is strictly support by the city government, but it is not. That is one of the things that I think is missed.”
Passehl says they are not just looking for the big donations, any little bit will help.
“If someone can drop a five dollar bill or a ten dollar bill or a twenty dollar bill, that would go a long way and we can continue to do the show, and even enhance the show.”
Last year, the fireworks committee fell short in their fundraising efforts, and recently Passehl says the group has used a fireworks slush fund to cover the loss of donations, but that fund is drying up.
“We just expect that we are going to raise that money by July 3rd” said Pasehl. “In the past, we didn’t, so we were just thankful that we had that fund established to cover the difference in donation money.”
While this year’s show is not in jeopardy, the same cannot be said for future shows. That is road that Passehl says he does not want to go down
We can’t afford to fall short any longer, and we need to start rebuilding the slush fund. I just can’t think of what it would be like on July 3rd in Shawano to not have fireworks” Passehl said. I guess my plea is that for everyone who finds value in the Shawano fireworks, if they can dip into their wallet a little, it will make a difference. We will have fireworks this year on July 3rd, but we also have to have the understanding that if we are not able to raise more money, 2018 is in jeopardy unfortunately.
This year’s show is scheduled for Monday July 3rd at the Shawano Airport grounds. Big Brothers and Big Sisters will provide fun and games for families beginning at 6:00pm at the Airport grounds. Patriotic music will once again be provided by WTCH.
