The New London Fire Department was dispatched to the scenes of two different fires within hours of each other Saturday afternoon. The first call was a a house fire at 515 Fremont Street. The house was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived. Firefighters reported the fire burning through the roof when they arrived on scene. Due to intense heat, the fire was also starting to spread to the east side of a neighboring house on E. Beacon Avenue. Firefighters had to spray down the second house before returning to the original house to extinguish the fire. Hortonville, Weyauwega and Dale Fire Departments assisted at the scene. Members of the New London Fire Department had to be relieved from time to time due to the intense heat. The New London Fire Department indicated that the house on Fremont Street was destroyed, with a total loss estimiated at $250,000. The damage to the home on Beacon Ave was estimated to be between $10,000 to $20,000. The home owner on Fremont Street was home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.
Fire Call at Festival Foods Parking LotÂ
A second fire call came just after 3:00pm on Saturday for a car that started on fire in the Festival Foods parking lot while the owner was inside shopping. The vehicle, a 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass was destroyed with flames burning the dash inside the passenger compartment of the car when crews arrived. Firefighters had to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to a vehicle parked in the next stall.
