Regional Finals
Shawano 13, Seymour 10
The third meeting between Shawano and Seymour lived up to the hype, as the Hawks outlasted the Thunder 13-10 in an eight-inning slugfest to advance into sectionals.
In a back and forth affair that was knotted 5-5 heading to the seventh, Shawano’s Erin Cerveny and Tatum DePerry each cracked two-run home runs to put the Hawks in front by four heading to the home half.
Seymour wouldn’t go down quietly. Paige Weyer delivered a three-run shot to cut the lead to one, while the team would tack on another to force extra-innings.
In the eighth, Erin Cerveny came through again, hitting her second home run in consecutive innings, one that gave Shawano a three-run lead. Shawano would get another run before Seymour came to bat in the bottom of the inning.
After scratching across a run and loading the bases, Bayleigh Laabs made a diving catch in the outfield to put an end to the game.
Although she claims she was in a slump, Erin Cerveny picked a great time to have a career game.
“I’m just so happy it happend,” she said after the game. “It was the best game of my life.”
Cerveny finished with a pair of home runs and five RBI. Shawano hit four home runs as a team.
“We hit the ball up and down the lineup,” said Shawano head coach Brian Johnson.
