Estimated Damages To Exceed $200,000
Fire destroyed a home in Waupaca County Saturday Night. The New London Fire Department was called out to a garage fire on County Highway S, just after 10:00pm. Crews on scene reported a garage fully engulfed, with flames starting to spread to a house, a camper trailer and a vehicle in the driveway upon arrival. Crews also reported that the fire started to spread to the neighbors garage. Hortonville, Ellington, Shiocton, Dale and Bear Creek Fire assisted at the scene.
According to a report, the home was destroyed. The damages were estimated to be over $200,000 dollars. A full size trailer house that was attached to the residence has melted siding. Firefighters noted that the heat from the fire was strong enough to melt the siding off one side of the neighbors home. Investigation shows that the fire likely started in the garage, but the exact cause remains under investigation. According to the report, the home owner told firefighters that he was using a battery charger to charge a battery in the garage.
Crews returned the next day to extinguish an area that was smoldering on the second level of the home.
