A Marion teacher is in custody of the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department, following felony charges of repeated sexual assault of a child and three counts of child enticement, involving sexual contact.
According to the Marion Police Department, Timothy A. Gast allegedly sent inappropriate text messages and made sexual contact with a student four years ago, who was 14 years old at the time.
Police say they were first notified by the student on Monday, April 24, after the Marion Police Department gave an Internet safety presentation to students. A written statement was provided by the student on Wednesday, May 3. Gast was formerly charged in Waupaca County Court on Friday.
According to court records, Gast’s adjourned initial appearance will be on Tuesday, May 9. If convicted, charges of repeated sexual assault carry up to 40 years in prison and a maximum $100,000 fine. He’s also facing a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and $100,000 fine if convicted of the child enticement charges.
Judge Raymond Huber ruled that Gast may not have any contact directly or indirectly with the victim, or anyone under 18 years old. Gast is also not permitted to have contact with the Marion High School, or be on its premises.
Court records show that a cash bond of $5,000 was posted by Gast.
