The 7th annual Trail Fun Run/Walk will be held Saturday at the Navarino nature Center, which will coincide with Earth Day, but the fun run won’t be the only attraction this weekend.
“We’ll have the trail fun run, as we have in the past first thing in the morning, said Director at Navarino, Tim Ewing. “Then later in the day, starting at 11:00 [a.m.] will be the Earth Day open house from 11:00 until 2:00. Of course, then the traditional stand-by will be there, the ever-popular wagon rides through the wildlife area will be after the trail run.”
Day-of registration is available before the run/walk, which begins at 9:00 a.m. Those registered, or those still planning to register are reminded to prepare for typical trail conditions.
“There can be mud and there can be tree roots, but it’s not just a run,” explained Ewing. “There’s also a walk. So there’s a 10K run, a 5K run, a 5K walk, and then a one-mile kids fun run.”
Other activities at Navarino include face-painting, crafts, building a bird house, food, and much more.
The fun run/walk serves as a fundraiser for Navarino Nature Center, which supports school programs for nearly 4,000 area students at local middle and elementary schools, as well as supports environmental education at Navarino Nature Center.
