Wisconsin lawmakers will soon hear how the state’s eleven Indian tribes are doing.
The Great Lakes Intertribal Council has chosen Stockbridge Munsee president Shannon Holsey to deliver the 13th annual State of the Tribes address next Tuesday at the State Capitol.
The Stockbridge Munsee is in a dispute with the state, claiming that the Ho Chunk tribe violated its state gaming compact by building a hotel and a larger casino near Wittenberg, which is close to the Stockbridge Munsee’s North Star Casino at Bowler.
The state says the Ho Chunk has done nothing improper. If the state holds to that stance, the Stockbridge Munsee says it will withhold $923,000 in casino revenues that it’s scheduled to pay the state by the end of June.
