The new Waupaca County Highway Facility underwent a space needs study in order to determine what the county will need for operational space.
“We’ve basically broken just the main body of the highway department into different categories and then there’s subcategories of that,” Waupaca County Highway Commission Casey Beyersdorf told the Waupaca County Board of Supervisors. “It’s a working draft copy, nothing is finalized.”
In Phase I, among items included are a committee meeting area, which could be used for other purposes in the county.
“Any of the townships that don’t have town halls, so to speak, may want to use this facility for sub-meetings,” Beyersdorf said. “We gladly can open the front doors, have a group come in for a meeting. It can function for more ways than just highway facility functions.”
Other preliminary plans include a crew room for plow drivers in the event of when a snowstorm hits the county.
“Most of the time if they’re going to get called back early in the morning, they aren’t going to drive home in a snow event at 10:00 at night and lose that travel time in sleep,” said Beyersdorf. “Little things like that we want to capture before we present this as what it’s going to look like.”
The county is working with Bray Architects to design the new facility before finalizing later this year.
