The raze order against the former Ponderosa property in Shawano began on Wednesday morning.
The vacant building was purchased by VDG LLC for $330,000 in a sale last June. It previously belonged to the Samanta Roy Institute of Science and Technology and was included in a $500,000 foreclosure suit against the organization.
In January, both the Shawano Redevelopment Authority and VDG agreed that the building needed to come down sooner rather than later.
“[VDG] has been marketing the property, in hopes to sell it,” said Eddie Sheppard of the RDA . “It’s taking a little longer than their hopes are. At the same time, that’s kind of an important property in this community. People pay attention to it. We’d like that property to come down.”
The property has been vacant since 2008.
