Chiefs Enter Semifinal With Win Streak
Shiocton expects to see a defense unlike any they have seen this year, when they face Roncalli in a Division 4 Sectional Semifinal Wednesday. The Chiefs ran through the CWC-8 Conference, winning the title with a 14-0 record, and enter the game winning 14 straight, including a win over St. Mary Catholic in the Regional Final 61-47.
“It is nice to see that carry over into the postseason,” said Coach Chad Schmidt. Shiocton is the last team standing from the Conference.
Jets Record Not Something To Overlook
Roncalli enters the game 11-13 on the season after finishing fifth in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference, and unlike the CWC-8, two other teams from the Conference won Regional titles. Schmidt says Roncalli will offer them their toughest test of the season, and it has to do with the style that they play.
“They full court man press you and deny and pressure. We don’t face that a lot,” said Schmidt. We have faced the athleticism and shooting they they have, but the not way they defend pressure and deny.”
Schmidt said to get a win, the players will have to execute what they practiced.
I think we have to make good decisions against pressure” Schmidt replied. “We have to use the correct skill set; hesitation, quick cross, blow by them, just stuff like that.”
Schmidt said along with good decisions, it may simply come down to luck. Shiocton has made Sectionals in three of the recent seasons, but lost every time in the Semifinals. Schmidt said he remembered a Semifinal against Reedsville.
“We barley lost, but we were 0-14 from the line, but that was very unique.”
Shiocton enters the game led by Nathan Schmidt. The Senior has scored 20 points a game this season. Brandon Spencer and Wesley Brouillard both return with postseason experience.
The Division 4 Semifinal is at 7:00pm at Green Bay Southwest High School
