The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department announced they’ve received a boost in their K-9 unit, as they’ve officially welcomed K-9 Arres to their staff. Shawano County Sheriff Adam Bieber says Arres will be handled by Deputy Anna Sharpless, which is a first in the county’s history.
“That’s actually our first female K-9 handler Shawano County has ever had” said Bieber. She’s excited to be working with Arres. It’s a beautiful dog, it’s a talented dog, and we expect big things from them.”
Arres joins K-9 Rekon and his handler Deputy Rekoske in the K-9 unit, who have been busy as of late visiting area schools and helping the city of Shawano in drug searches.
“We even go to Clintonville, we go to Pulaski. We do drug searches for those schools. We want to send a message that drugs are not welcome in our schools. We’ve helped out the city on drug searches for traffic stops during the day” said Bieber.
Sheriff Bieber adds that Rekon will continue the day shift, while Arres will be on duty during the night. It’s another step closer to the sheriff’s goal of having a K-9 available 24 hours around the county.
