Our Beloved, Sylvia Below, passed away at age 94 to a life with her Eternal Father on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. She loved the Lord dearly and, even up to her last days, she would remember her confirmation verse that carried her through her life: “Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” (Ps 37:4-5)
Sylvia (Huebner) Below was born to Theodore and Amanda (Schultz) Huebner on January 29, 1923, in Leopolis.
Sylvia was a WWII veteran who proudly served her country in the US Navy as a dental assistant /nurse at Pearl Harbor. When she came home she met the love of her life, and she and Orland were married on May 10, 1947, in Shawano, where they had three sons: Thomas, William and Richard.
Sylvia worked for the Shawano school district for many years as a baker and was well known by family and friends as the “best baker ever” and a very loving person with a “big heart”. She loved her Lord, volunteering for St. James (her home church), living on their farm in Shawano and feeding her animal friends, baking the best sweets ever, spending time with family and friends, and watching the Green Bay Packers.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas (Christine) Below and William Below; five grandchildren, Sarah (Wayne) Bailey, Amy (Ryan) Kamien, Erin (George) Morschauser, Jenna (Chris Thomas) Below, and Megan Below; five great grandchildren, Tessa and Lewis Kamien, Nate Bailey, and Lincoln and Geonna Morschauser; and her sisters, Lucille (Gordon) Radtke and Judy (Donald) Thaves.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orland Below; one son, Richard; and a sister, Betty (Heubner) Natchwey.
Sylvia passed on after suffering a long illness. The family would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to the loving staff at Angels on Arcadian in De Pere and the staff of Unity Hospice.
Funeral services for Sylvia Below will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 11:00 AM at St. James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Timm Griffin will officiate. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at St. James on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. Full military honors will be conducted at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. James School would be appreciated.
