Dora E. Spiegel, age 99, of Tigerton passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.
The former Dora Emma Wendler was born on April 11, 1917 in Wittenberg to Otto and Martha (Brunner) Wendler. When Dora was still in her teens she went to Chicago, IL, to work as a nanny for several years. While in Chicago, Dora and her sister Sadie even sang on WLS Radio Station for a short time. She was united in marriage on June 26, 1937 to Arthur H. Spiegel at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The couple lived for a short time in Neenah and then returned home to the Tigerton area. Art and Dora dairy farmed in the Town of Fairbanks, Shawano County, for 31 years and retired in 1973.
After retirement, they moved into town and her husband preceded her in death on May 2, 2002. Dora was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. She liked working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. After farming, Dora and Art enjoyed traveling and snowmobiling for many years.
Survivors include two children, Ron (Holly) Spiegel of Highland, IN, and Sylvia (Bill) Zimdars of Leopolis. There are 8 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister Alma (Roy) Kelm of New Holstein; a sister-in-law Francis Shest of Tigerton; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Rebecca Spiegel, one granddaughter, four grandsons, five sisters, and 3 brothers.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 27th at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Rev. Matthew Uttenreither will officiate and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Monday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the church. The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Tigerton, is assisting with the arrangements.
