The Northeastern Conference will highlight Division 2 Semifinals on Friday Night. Between Luxemburg-Casco, Oconto Falls, Wrightstown, Freedom and Denmark, 12 wrestlers won their quarterfinal match on Friday to secure a spot in the Semifinals. At 106, Luxemburg-Casco’s Lucas Joniaux avenged an early season loss to Viroqua’s Jansen Mc Celland with a 4-2 win. Defending State Champion Bryce Bosman of the Spartans earned a pin to get his chance to return to the Semifinals at 113. Denmark’s two time Champion Brock Bergelin’s 8-3 win helped keep his hopes of a third State championship alive.
At 138, New London’s Scott Cook made quick work in the quarterfinals with an 11-3 win that gives the Bulldogs a chance to get their first ever State Champion. Freedom will be represented on Friday by Sam Peters and Evan Vosters (pictured above), who both beat a Sectional Champion on Friday morning. Bryce Ash and Nate Trepanier are in the Semifinals after getting wins to kick off competition on Friday. Luxemburg-Casco has strength in the upper weights with Devin Vandenbush, Dalton Smercheck, Nate Lloyd and Phil Rasmussen all advancing to the Semifinals. The Spartans have six wrestlers in the Semifinals.
Wrightstown’s Matthew Van Eperen came from behind to get a pin in the final seconds of his quarterfinal match after trailing all the way until late third period. Van Eperen will be joined in the Semifinals by Bryce Herlache.
