It’s been nearly four years, but on Monday 58-year-old Miguel Cruz pleaded no contest to a charge of Homicide by Vehicle – Use of a Controlled Substance.
The accident occurred on June 14, 2013 on Highway 10 in Waupaca County, as investigators say Cruz had been weaving in and out of traffic, while hitting speeds of upwards to 90 mph. He allegedly rear-ended an SUV being driven by 28-year-old Sara Dulmes of West Bend.
According to the report, the Dulmes was thrown onto the highway after the collision. Her 8-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle, but was uninjured.
The criminal complaint stated that blood tests showed Cruz was high on cocaine, telling investigators that he didn’t remember the accident. Charges were first filed in the case July 28, 2015.
