La Vern Robert Edward Klosterman, age 86, long time resident of Bonduel, died on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Evergreen Healthcare Center in Shawano. He was born in Bonduel on October 13, 1930, the son of the late William and Clara (Kollath) Klosterman Deering. La Vern severed our country from 1954 until 1956 by enlisting in the United States Army. On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Zuleger. He worked as a truck driver and was the first trucker to take a 16×80 trailer out of Wisconsin. He also worked as a farmer, which he particularly enjoyed. He also enjoyed gardening and grew sweet corn to sell, storytelling, woodworking and building birdhouses. His love for traveling brought him to every state in the United States including Hawaii and Germany.
La Vern is survived by: his wife, Marilyn; their children, Terry (Kim) Klosterman of Cecil, LouAnn (Greg) Joachim of Florida, Connie (Stuart) Iversen of Roseville, MN and Steve (Lena) Klosterman of Shawano; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Ivan (Sue) Klosterman of Bonduel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: two great-grandchildren and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Zachow with Rev. Richard Buhrke officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Bonduel American Legion Post #217. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm and again at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
