Some changes will soon be coming to the Shawano District Office. A recent outside study that was completed last year indicated that the district would benefit from having all district level staff in one area. The study indicated that it would increase efficiency and communication at the District level. Currently four district level staff members are not in the District Office. A plan to make some upgrades was approved by the Shawano School Board on Monday. The plan will go out for bid, with money coming from the Fund Balance. The idea is to turn the current district meeting room into offices and move the remaining staff members to the new location. It would also force a change of location for the Shawano School Board Meetings in the future.
The Shawano School Board approved accepting a bid $568,669 dollars from SCS Incorporated to upgrade the HVAC system at the High School. The School Board learned that the current system is outdated, and its age is causing some problems.
“Every component throughout the building is run in an old and inaccurate way of doing things, so we have a lot of wasted energy right now” said Jeff Easter, Buildings and Grounds Director for Shawano School District.
Easter said by doing the upgrade, there will be some savings in energy in the process. A recent referendum allowed the district to replace the HVAC system in the Middle School last year. Easter said the High School would have the same system.
“After we replaced the system in the Middle School, the High School’s system became the most antiquated in the district” said Easter. “This would bring the High School with other buildings and we would be in good shape for quite some time.” The School Board voted to use money from a healthy fund balance to cover the cost of the replacement.
