The city of Shawano is known for its scenic views along the Wolf River, great community members, and fun recreational opportunities, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that many people wish to and do in fact move to the area. Sometimes it can be difficult for new residents to adjust to a new community, which is why Shawano Mayor Jeanne Cronce would like the city to implement a welcome wagon for its new residents.
“They may not know where things are in town and I would like to find someone in the community to coordinate that with me” said Mayor Cronce. The idea is just that, an idea right now, but Mayor Cronce said many options of what to do with a welcome wagon are out there.
“It is kind of open ended at this time, many times coupons to local businesses are available” added Cronce. “The purpose is to provide anything that people who are moving to a new town should know.
Mayor Cronce says she’s looking for a community member to volunteer and help her coordinate a plan to start a welcome wagon for new community members, but Cronce believes there are a number of options the welcome wagon could include. In this digital age, most people don’t have difficulty searching for businesses or great places to eat on their own, but it’s the personalized touch a welcome wagon from the community can bring, that can make a real difference.
“Sometimes just that first meeting with someone from the community that knows a lot” said Cronce. “We could start out small and always make it grow.”
Cronce says anyone that might be willing to volunteer and work with her should contact her at her at the Mayor’s office in City Hall to start the initial planning stages of how to more effectively welcome Shawano’s new residents.
