A former Wisconsin businessman wanted for the death of his girlfriend’s unborn baby in 2007 is being held in New York State for possible immigration charges. U-S Border Patrol agents stopped Manish Patel’s car last Friday in Malone, New York near the Canadian border, and officials say he gave agents his real name despite having a fraudulent passport which expired in December. Patel, who’s now 43, remains charged in Outagamie County with nine criminal counts after he allegedly spiked his girlfriend’s drink with an abortion pill, stopping her from giving birth. He disappeared from Appleton when 50 donors put up his bond that totaled 750-thousand dollars, and most lost what they gave. Now, county officials are working with the feds to get him back to Appleton when they can, and the state has tax warrants against Patel from a few years ago, while some of the gas stations and hotels he used to own in northeast and central Wisconsin had claims against him.
