Effective immediately, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced that drivers who need to submit a “Driver Report of Crash” must now submit it online to the DOT. The rash report in paper form will no longer be available for completing and mailing to their offices. The DOT requires a report when it results in injury or death, incurs $1,000 or more in damages to a person’s vehicle or property, or damage of $200 or more in state or government-owned property other than a vehicle. According to the DOT, the electronic change will save both time and resources, and also assist in efficiently collecting crash information and data, which can be critical for planning enforcement, education, and engineering strategies to improve traffic safety.
