Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reported Tuesday morning a snow plow driver discovered a car near the Menominee River by Bombers Golf Course in the town of Niagara.
Footprints lead from the vehicle to the river bank, down a steep hill, and out onto a piece of ice. Marinette Sheriff’s Deputies were then called and began to investigate.
The registration on the vehicle came back to a Mr. Bray of Norway, Michigan, who had been reported missing and suicidal by Michigan authorities. After further consultation with the Norway Police Department, the Marinette’ Sheriff’s Office activated its dive team.
The Wisconsin DNR Wardens responded and assisted with the investigation and search, with the use of their underwater remote controlled search vehicle called an R.O.V.
The search continued into Tuesday evening, however, with negative results. It would later be called off, due to dark, deep water, and a very strong current at this point of the river. As of now, the search has been terminated because of the current weather conditions.
Authorities are asking anyone with any information regarding the matter to contact the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office at (715) 732-7627.
