According to Triple A, New Year’s Eve is often among the deadliest nights of the year for impaired driving crashes, and in effort to help party hosts encourage safe and sober driving, Triple A has updated their edition of “The Great Pretenders Party Guide.” The booklet includes safe party planning tips, as well as delicious alcohol-free drink recipes submitted by four and five diamond restaurants and hotels. A recent survey found that 38 percent of drivers who admit to getting behind the wheel within an hour of having multiple drinks do so after leaving private residences, which makes them the second most popular venue for pre-driving alcohol consumption behind local taverns. The survey also found that party hosts can have a big influence on would-be impaired drivers by finding four of ten respondents would be less likely to drive if a friend or family member encouraged them not to. Tips for this includes encouraging carpools and giving small gifts to designated drivers as appreciation, not forcing alcoholic drinks on guests, have guests turn in keys when they arrive, offer guests to stay the night. As always never drink and drive, and have a safe New Year’s Eve.
