Police say that the gun used in a New London drive-by shooting on November 1st was stolen. According to the report, 19-year-old Austin Merryfield faces charges of felony theft in addition to attempted homicide and reckless endangerment charges.
During the investigation, authorities met with the parents of a friend of Merryfield, whom which he stayed with just three days before the shooting. After police informed the parents about the shooting and read the description of the weapon used, the friend’s mother discovered their .22-caliber gun was missing from their bedroom.
Authorities did find the gun they believe Merryfield used in the shooting in the Embarrass River, which the owners believe was the gun that was stolen from them.
